Marriage & Relationship Counseling

“A rolling stone
carries no moss” – Where did that saying come from? You might
also ask – what does that have to do with marriage and
relationships?
Healthy
relationships are alive in the present moment.
There are those
that propose – live in the present, forget the past and move on.
That is a simplistic,
ineffective approach to problem solving.
The part of us that has been hurt by another – continues
to live within us afraid of being hurt again. The protective
edge that develops between two people erodes the intimate
aspects of a relationship, leaving it painful, sterile and
contrived. Pain that remains unexpressed sits there, growing a
protective covering that keeps partners separate and alone.
Relationship
counseling is not about dredging up old stuff. It is about
looking back long enough to understand the emotional patterns
within a relationship that led to painful encounters.
Once relational patterns
are understood and new ways to be together established the inner
parts of us that were hurt and remain vulnerable relax.
Families,
couples, friends, partners become free to enjoy one another.
