Film
Presentation: Film Title: Common Threads. We will offer an
original and evocative documentary developed in collaboration with a
professional film maker, Amber Ward. This film is based on the book, Common
Threads: Stories of Life After Trauma. The book was featured in the April 2004
edition of the Advocate. This film documents the life of two children, a boy
and a girl who experience trauma. The documentary chronicles how trauma affects
their self concepts, life choices and their lives as psychotherapists.
The film maker is a
visual artist and the documentary brings the viewer into the world of abused
children. Rather then exploitive, the documentary is constructed with symbolic
images which are both lovely and provocative.
This film drives
home the reality of the long shelf life of abuse giving insight into windows of
opportunity for intervention. This film is about abuse, recovery and hope.
In preparation for
viewing the film the presenters will guide participants as they monitor their
own body responses including breath, tension and sensations.
