Documentary:  Common Threads: Stories of Life After Trauma

Included in this workshop is the original documentary:  Common Threads: Stories of Life After Trauma.

Connie and Marcel are available to bring their workshop and or their documentary to your agency, medical facility, teacher’s conference.  The film is an appropriate teaching tool for any professional who works with children.

Film Presentation:  Film Title: Common Threads.  We will offer an original and evocative documentary developed in collaboration with a professional film maker, Amber Ward.  This film is based on the book, Common Threads: Stories of Life After Trauma. The book was featured in the April 2004 edition of the Advocate.  This film documents the life of two children, a boy and a girl who experience trauma. The documentary chronicles how trauma affects their self concepts, life choices and their lives as psychotherapists.

The film maker is a visual artist and the documentary brings the viewer into the world of abused children. Rather then exploitive, the documentary is constructed with symbolic images which are both lovely and provocative.

This film drives home the reality of the long shelf life of abuse giving insight into windows of opportunity for intervention.  This film is about abuse, recovery and hope.

In preparation for viewing the film the presenters will guide participants as they monitor their own body responses including breath, tension and sensations.

Workshop

Title: Self Talk: Essentials for Trauma Treatment

This experiential workshop offers an understanding of somatic and internal traumatic reactions associated with PTSD and complex trauma.

Experimenting with gentle treatment modalities including Internal Family Systems Therapy and body psychotherapy participants will learn to use their body responses as treatment markers, enhance treatment approaches and increase self care.

  • Participants will be able to attune themselves with the client and at the same time remain unblended from the client’s abreacting parts.

  • Will be able to detect one or two of their own activated, triggered or troubling parts.

  • Will be able to use imagery, cognitions, feelings, sensations, movement, body alignment and breathing in the service of being more fully present to self and to others.
